On October 26th, 2010 Shelly Jones woke up and found a “lump”. She had a mammogram and biopsy on
the same day. The following day she found out that the cancer was advanced and invasive.
She is 35 years old. Because of her age she chose the option to have a double mastemctomy.
With being only 35 the chances of it reoccurring are greater. She also found out that her cancer was
estrogen/progesterone positive …meaning that those hormones feed/fuel the cancer. So they decided
that she needed to continue her aggressive treatment and have a complete hysterectomy, and removal
Of her overies. All of this was done before Christmas.
A few days after the holiday she started her chemotherapy . Every two weeks for four months.
The drugs they used made her sick and ache and of course tired. After Chomo she had to have
A $ 7000.00 shot call Neulasta to help her body make white blood cells to fight infections that she
couldn’t do on her own. Two weeks before finishing her second treatment of chemo her husband
Andrew lost his job due to the economy permantly. Now they were only left with unemployment
Compensation to cover their expenses. Their son Johsua also has medical problems and is on a gluten
Free diet because of his celiac disease.
After almost 7 months of medical/persona/sick leave Shelly is back to work and starting her radiation
Treatments which has had it’s own set of problems.
Andrew has found a job locally @ Sun Graphics and is back working full time.
Shelly truly feels she has been give the “Gift of Life” already. She’s still here to enjoy her children
And family.
Shelly grew up in Plymouth, and met her husband Andrew here. They have 3 children, Joshua
10, Ilyssa, 8 & Alaina who is 5.
